Our History

The Junior League of Peoria (JLP) has been serving the Peoria area for over 85 years, through projects such as the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum, Kids in the Kitchen, and JULEP’s Closet, among many othersEstablished in 1936, the Junior League of Peoria plays an integral part in the development, improvement, and support of the Peoria community. One of hundreds of Junior League chapters across the world, JLP is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI).

The Mission of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

Since its founding in 1901 by social activist Mary Harriman, The Junior League has evolved into one of the oldest, largest, and most effective women’s volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing more than 140,000 women in 291 Leagues in four countries.

For more than a century, The Junior League has been at the forefront of social reform, identifying problems—pollution, illiteracy, domestic violence, foster children without a safety net—and finding solutions.
