What Is Keepsacks for Kids?

Keepsacks For Kids began with the Junior League of Peoria and is now wholly sustained by the Children's Home of Illinois. The project serves to increase public awareness of our local homeless problems and children in crisis. This project strives to help heal the psychological wounds that homelessness can cause by presenting to displaced children a tangible possession that represents safety, security, hope, and home.

This project works in collaboration with the local sewing guilds and community volunteers to produce children's sleeping bags for distribution to local community agencies that house homeless children age 3–12 years. Each year, we distributed 200 sleeping bags and 50 infant bags.

Thanks to all of the participants for making the 2007 event a success! Check back later for more details on the 2008 event.
