What Is the Peoria PlayHouse? The Peoria PlayHouse children’s museum is built on a solid partnership between the Junior League of Peoria, the Peoria Zoological Society, and the Peoria Park District. It is part of the larger plan to revitalize the campus at Glen Oak Park (spurred by the expansion of the Peoria Zoo and Botanical Garden) and will be located at the newly designed entrance to the zoo in the Glen Oak Pavilion.
What Will It Do for Peoria? The Peoria PlayHouse will prepare every young child to learn by offering the hands-on experiences essential for healthy brain development. It will feature interactive exhibits and programs that strengthen families and complement formal education, ensuring that all children are stimulated to participate and learn. These positive learning experiences instill in children a lifelong love of learning, and encourage an appreciation of cultural institutions as they mature.
The Peoria PlayHouse will also benefit local economic development efforts by helping to attract and retain young professionals in Central Illinois. With the zoo, the Peoria PlayHouse will become a full-day, regional destination stop for families and school groups, bringing local and tourism dollars, and will create jobs during and after construction.
